Have been running a number of DotNetNuke installations with a number of different hosting companies, with most having a number of websites.
Have been frustrated with DotNetNuke's slow performance for the last year and a half.
Have tried many of the recommendations to optimize DNN and upgraded some installations to the newest version, which is supposed to be a lot faster.
Overall, saw little, if any performance improvements by the changes. Not that you should not do them, but the results were not satisfactory. Performance may have substantially improved, but was still awful.
Recently, performance has been outstanding on all the hosting companies, even though I have made no changes.
After reporting problems to the hosting companies, and letting them know that DNN was slow, they made changes that gave my DNN websites much faster performance, in some cases, about 1 second response time.
My conclusion is, DNN can operate very fast, provided the servers are properly configured.
If your DNN is slow, report a problem to your web hosting company.
You can create a simple html file and put that in your root, to see if performance is related to Asp.net. If the simple html file displays immediately, you will know that the problem is related to Asp.net.
